Let’s face it; I’m always on a skincare kick.
I drank the juice. I’ve joined the cult of Korean face sheet masks worshippers and I’m not even mad about it. You know what I’m talking about; you’ve see girls wearing ghostly looking masks sometimes on planes and in countless YouTube videos. With cooler temps quickly approaching; you’ll need all the moisture you can get.
I originally discovered sheet masks after complaining about my uneven skin to my Korean friends which ended up in a fascinating crash course about Korean culture.
“Milky white porcelain skin is like a status symbol for elite.”
This is ironic, because it’s the opposite in the states. Americans desire a tan year round, especially during the winter months in hopes of looking sun kissed by a beach somewhere. Brightening or whitening was one of the top reasons these sheet masks became so popular in Korea.
A few quick tips about sheet masks; read the instructions.
Every sheet mask is built differently, following the guide lines will result in best possible results. Most of these masks are not to be worn more then 15-20 minutes. That drying effect with traditional masks does not apply here; it could reverse the moisturizing effect. Twenty minutes is all you need for your skin to absorb all that goodness.
Musteav requires no rinsing post mask. You simply wipe off the excess liquid and let the juices sink into skin to do its thing. However, there are some sheet masks that require a post rinse and seal with your moisturizer. Again, read the instructions carefully.
One issue I encountered with these masks though is that they slide off of my face. I decided to start cutting the mask into pieces and targeting problematic areas. Genius, I know. Totally stole that idea from YouTube. Plus, they’ll look less scary around kids.
My favorite mask of the fantastic foursome was the Musteav Whitening Joy Mask. My skin can hold on to a tan for months-and not in a good way. I’m still dealing with an uneven skin tone from my trip to Barbados this summer. TBH, I’m over it. These masks are helping me achieve my original skin tone one sheet at a time. Anything that can brighten up my skin from a stale tan, I’m with it. Xx Sas
